Contra Costa Imaging Center in Concord Awarded ACR Accreditation
November 2009
Contra Costa Imaging Center in Concord, CA has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) as the result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
The ACR, headquartered in Reston, VA, awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the findings to the ACR’s Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report.
The ACR is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic and interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, and nuclear medicine and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
New Cutting Edge Imaging Technology at Alta CT (Herrick Hospital Campus)
April 2009
Alta CT at Herrick Hospital presents a state of the art Bright Speed 16 Slice CT. The new scanner offers a lower radiation dose to the patient. With faster image acquisition, patients have less motion and shorter breath holds for some exams. The facility offers high quality multiplanar reconstructions for all exams. The advanced 3D visualization is available for many exams, such as CTA, MSK, and CT urograms.
New 3T MRI at John Muir Magnetic Imaging Center
August 2008
John Muir Magnetic Imaging Center installed a new state of the art high definition magnetic resonance (HDMR) scanner, the Signa® EXCITE 3.0T HD system MRI. With the new high definition MR system, our radiologists are able to capture dramatic patient images, reminiscent of high definition television. The system provides outstanding image quality for a confident diagnosis, and less likelihood of patient rescans, even in the most challenging circumstances.
The new MRI system can provide information on a wide range of conditions, including cardiac and vascular disease, stroke, abdominal and brain disorders, and musculoskeletal conditions in the knee, shoulder and other joints. Its speed is especially helpful in abdominal procedures, where many patients have difficulty holding their breath.
As a non-university site, we are unique in being able to offer the choice of the best imaging technology to suit your patient’s needs. In addition to providing the most advanced MRI technology in the area, having the new 3T and our original 1.5T scanners on site will allow more efficient scheduling with less delay for physicians and patients.
Dr. James Brenner Joins Bay Imaging Consultants in the Alta Bates Community
May 2008
It is with great pleasure that Bay Imaging Consultants Medical Group (BIC) announces the arrival of their new Director of Breast Imaging Services, Dr. R. James Brenner. Dr. Brenner comes to the Alta Bates community from UCSF, leaving his position as Professor of Radiology and Chief of Breast Imaging. He will be working at the Carol Ann Read Breast Health Center and its satellite facilities, including The Imaging and Mammography Center at 5730 Telegraph Avenue. Dr. Brenner will concentrate exclusively on breast imaging, including mammography, ultrasound, MRI and breast biopsy procedures. Dr. Brenner has revised our current conventional breast imaging protocols, and has already implemented new state-of-the-art techniques for breast MRI and breast MRI-guided biopsy at Magnetic Imaging Affiliates (MIA) located at 5730 Telegraph Avenue.
Dr. Brenner is a nationally and internationally recognized expert in all aspects of breast imaging as well as clinical risk management. He has published more than 120 scientific papers (with seminal articles in breast biopsy and breast MRI), written 50 book chapters (editor of two texts) and has given more than 1200 invited lectures. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Central Division of the Los Angeles Cancer Society and is a consultant to state and federal agencies as well as to industry. He was recently awarded honorary lifetime membership in the U.K. Royal College of Radiology Breast division.
Prostate MRI at Magnetic Imaging Affiliates Now Available
Summer 2007
Magnetic Imaging Affiliates is currently the only non-university imaging center in the San Francisco East Bay area to offer this powerful new tool for diagnosing and treatment planning of prostate disease.
Our 3.0T MRI Prostate eCoil was designed to produce very accurate diagnostic images of the prostate that may enable early diagnosis and staging of prostate cancer. It can also be used to plan radiation therapy in a way that helps physicians localize treatment to only the affected part of the gland. By giving physicians more accurate images for use in planning and delivering target treatment, our imaging services may help physicians personalize the patient’s treatment.
Breast MRI with Cadstream at John Muir Magnetic Imaging Center and Magnetic Imaging Affiliates
April 2007
Breast MRI has several established clinical indications, including disease staging, monitoring response to therapy in breast cancer patients and screening patients at high-risk for breast cancer. In addition, our advanced Breast MRI facility also uses CADstreamTM – a computer-aided-detection system designed for use in analyzing breast MRI studies. CADstream improves the effectiveness of breast MRI as an automated efficient way to process and interpret studies and guide interventional procedures.
Introducing 3T MRI at Magnetic Imaging Affiliates
September 2006
Bay Imaging is pleased to announce the availability of the new state of the art ultra-high filed strength 3Telsa GE Signa MRI scanner at Magnetic Imaging Affiliates located at 5730 Telegraph Avenue in Oakland. The new scanner compliments the existing 1.5Telsa GE Signa HD Excite MRI scanner.
