biography

What’s something you learned in your training that you use every day?
One of my chest radiology professors, Steve Marglin, emphasized “symmetry with respect to form and density.” This is extremely useful multiple times on a daily basis.

How long have you been with BIC and what’s the best part about being part of the team?
It was close to 30 years ago my then small group in Fairfield had initial discussions with members of BIC to join with them. Even through it took around 26 years for us to join together and I am the only remaining member of that small group, I am pleased to be a part of the BIC radiologist family now for over 3.5 years. The support we give each other is remarkable, unusual, and a key part to what makes us an excellent radiology practice.

What is something that we wouldn’t know about you?
Over the past 15+ years I have become an endurance runner. Of the eight marathons completed, three have been the Grand-daddy of them all, Boston. My favorite urban marathon is New York. There was an incredible thrill running down 5th Avenue in New York, buoyed by the cheering crowds. My home course of Napa is just spectacular no matter what the season.

Do you have any favorite overall tips on how to be healthy?
Over the forty years since I graduated from medical school, there has been a significant increase in the size of people.  The equipment we need to image and treat patients has had to be modified to accommodate American's larger body size.  I would like to encourage everyone to be mindful that healthy living is a good habit to get into, that it isn't onerous and that it will likely lead to a happier and longer life.  Beside abstaining from certain absolutely harmful activities such as tobacco smoking, moderation is an excellent philosophy to remember while working to achieve the goal of healthy living.
